| Model Number | Yes this is a beast of a trailer — heavy (!), solidly built, rugged. I loaded this trailer with a very heavy load (the Friends of Stevens Creek Booth kit with a very heavy canopy and lots of equipment) and it held up fine (see attached pictures). Best to use 1″ nylon tie down straps with ratchets rather than bungie cords if you have a heavy load as bungie cords flex quite a bit. This solid trailer handles automotive style tie down straps very well. See attached pictures for the load I hauled (about 150 lbs).I got this trailer (the biggest I could find on Amazon) to haul heavy & long loads and it did not disappoint. At $240 it was almost twice the cost of some other smaller but similar cargo trailers but the cargo bed was also about twice as long. The only bigger bicycle trailer I know of that you can buy (but not on Amazon) is the Surly Bill (63″ x 24″ cargo bed) but that one is about $1049 (4 times the price).Recommended speed for the Cycle Force Trail Monster trailer from its owners manual is 10 miles/hour or less. I wish the trailer was wider and/or had a lower center of gravity so it would be more stable around turns and over bumps. When going about 12 mph on a road, one wheel hit a manhole cover bump on a gentle turn and the empty trailer flipped over. My aluminum burley trailer (for kids and dogs) has a wheel base width of 27″ center to center (and is much more stable around turns) whereas the wheel base width of this trailer is 22.5″ center to center and the center of gravity is higher as well. The additional width would make this heavy trailer even heavier but it would also make it much less prone to flipping. If you have a top heavy load just go very slow and avoid tilted trails/roads or ones with big bumps.The tires themselves are very wide and stay on top of gravel/sand/dirt very well although they do raise the center of gravity. The rims seem to be standard 16″ rims although the very thick tires make the wheels about 20″ in diameter.The cargo bed space within the sides is 16.5″ x 40″ but the bed itself is 18.5×42″. I was able to easily handle a long canopy by opening up the back gate. I it is easy to open up both the front and back gates. The sides do not quite fold down flat but almost. Best to leave the sides up though if you can so your load does not shift onto one of the wheels.The trailer was very easy to assemble and attach to a bike. All around this is a very strong well made cargo trailer that can haul a lot. If the trailer wheel base was 6-8″ wider, I would give it five stars but marked it down because of the stability/tipping issue (especially important if you intend to go off road with this trailer). |
| Color | My first negative experience was that the quick release wheels kept coming off. Bottom line–I don’t need quick release wheels, I need wheels that stay on. I have no car so this trailer like my last trailer gets heavy duty work, even in our Wisconsin winters.I replaced the quick release with permanent skewers which did help. But the 20″ balloon tire wheels not only made the trailer bounce but flip over as well. The heavy duty cargo trailers made by Bikes at Work have 16″ permanently mounted Tuff Wheels with 5 spokes that never need truing so I went with them and the trailer is more stable and less prone to flipping and doesn’t bounce around as well. The final thing I did today (28 Sept.) was to remove the railings and thereby saving 10 pounds of weight.I can now put in the trailer a regular sized under-the-bed storage tote that would otherwise be too wide to fit in with the railings on and it is nearly as long as the trailer. I just bungee it down and away I go and if I need something taller I can just bungee that on as well except now I can carry a wider tote. Without the railings it is a nice flat, flatbed trailer because even though the railing folded down they did not fold flat. I can now easily haul even 8 foot 4″ lumber. If I need to haul something wider than the wheels I can simply put the railings back on again.(When I had some work done on the original wheels after 5 or 6 months to true them up it was found that one of them had no grease.)So I now have a trailer that is very useful to me because of its 275+ weight limit (I’ve hauled 250 pounds of patio blocks) and it is now far less prone to flipping over than how I received it. But it was only ok for me after the mods I did to it to get it that way. |

Use often with my e-bike, to carry usually 150-300 lbs of food and supplies.There is minimal assembly — install Quick Release hubs on wheels and then mount them to frame. The front and back ‘gates’ mounting was the only problem I had — the screws opposite the pins are too big to fit through the slightly misaligned holes; I bought a couple of thinner pins with clips.The big wheels are great and the trailer really does handle a big, heavy load nicely. I saw some mention that it’s not meant to go over 10 mph, but I have no issues with it going faster. When unloaded, it does bounce around and makes a little noise.Easy to tie down gear with the nice framing. And once I put down the first layer of boxes within the wheel base and frame, boxes can now be put on with a wider footprint, straddling the frame and wheels.The price seemed very reasonable, especially comparing to similar ones that could not carry as heavy a load as well. Other ones I considered from Bikes at Work are really nice, but were too big and quite a bit more expensive.Followup edit: I broke the hitch/yoke due to carrying more than 300 pounds — which is the stated limit. I replaced with a BikesAtWork hitch which has worked much better.I’ve been really struggling with the wheels on this trailer. The wheel hubs have needed constant adjusting and the wheels keep coming off the trailer. I’m still trying to find a permanent solution to this.PPS: Bought smaller wheels, from Bikes At Work. Modified trailer mounting arms and then bolted wheels to trailer. Secure and safe now. |
