| Model Number | After a couple of months my wife and I can definitely say this has been a terrific purchase. After trying out the cheaper Trail Gator (an epic failure, which they never allowed us to return), we paid the extra money for the FollowMe tandem and couldn’t be happier, both with the product and our experience with the seller.Ultimately, this accomplishes for us exactly what we wanted. While towing our 4 year old child on a Burley Piccolo tandem and the 2 year old in a bike seat, our 5 1/2 year old can be towed from behind when near traffic or up steep climbs but unhitched to bike on his own. He rides a larger 20” wheel bike (Specialized Hot Rock), which is where the Trail Gator proved to be worthless. But the FollowMe Tandem easily adjusted for his larger wheels and fits his bike terrifically. We are amazed at how sturdy of a product this is. And while, yes, the extra weight is noticeable when you go to lift the bike, it doesn’t take too much getting used to before you forget about its being back there. Most importantly, our 5 year old is safely secured to the adult bike while towing. We’ve also been impressed with how easy it is to attach and detach the child’s bike once everything is set up. And while set up did take me a full hour or more when we first got it, that is a one-time setup, after which it takes maybe 10 or 15 seconds to change back and forth. We ended up getting an extra quick release skewer for my wife’s bike and transferring the FollowMe from one bike to the other is surprisingly simple. (You just unscrew without tools, pop it off one bike, pop it on the other, and screw back securely into place without needing any tools.)The only issue we’ve had was that when we first received the tandem we found that one of the spindle extenders needed (3/8″) had threading that was too loose to screw onto the bolt on my child’s bike. The other one fit tightly, and trying the good and bad extenders on both sides of the bike proved that the FollowMe spindle extender was the problem and not our child’s bike (since the other one securely fit both bolts on either side of the bike). This was disappointing, as we had to cancel a bike trip we had planned for the family to test out the new tandem. However, this seller more than earned back any star-ratings I would have deducted in my review because of their exceptional customer service. After emailing the seller through Amazon, they immediately got back with me via email within minutes (yes, minutes) after which we conversed over the phone to quickly resolve the issue. They rushed a part order at no charge, which fit my chld’s bike perfectly, and we were up and running in no time. Impressed!The fact is, if you’re like us and are looking for a way for your child to ride his own bike but be towed some of the time safely across or near busy roads, up challenging climbs, or through lengthy bike tours where he/she would fatigue prematurely…this really is the only viable option around to date. The Trail Gator is a cheaper product for sure, but it’s a hunk of cheap materials sitting in our garage because we can’t find anyone on Craigslist willing to take it off our hands. This, on the other hand, is sturdy, safe, and extremely easy to use once set up. Oh, and our child is loving the newfound freedom this offers him on our lengthier bike journeys. |

It was very scary as it sent my 6 year/45lbs off his bike on the street. We have not been able to connect with customer service to refund, repair or replace. |

The pride and convenience is well worth the price to get us both biking, IMHO. It looked like a nice attached type seat and wheel with a shifter would be about the same price as this, so now we have the best of both – she can shift and really help push us along (had to tell my wife to hurry up down the hills) and when we get to a safe place I can let her bike on her own.This is exactly what I was looking for – glad I found it!! |

He hooks up at our house, I haul him through the city, and traffic and sketchy stuff… then let him loose when we get to the bike path and he rides on his own for miles…then when he’s tired we hook him back up and ride home…he tells everyone daddy’s bike is just like a tow truck. We ride 3 miles daily and 6-10 on weekends…sometimes we just keep riding and then have mommy come to meet us with the car to get home. I had a bike shop set it up…a very well spent $85…I live in the city with no garage…figuring all that out in the sidewalk would have sucked. It’s super solid and i can see using it for 5-6 more years at least. After the 1st couple times, you can hook up the kiddo, or let him loose in seconds. It is heavy..like much heavier than my bike…but its solid and stable and feels much safer than other options. If you want your child to be able to unhook and ride alone…this is the one/ |
